Getting rid of the Vundo trojan - what worked for me. (link to free download)
I got a email from a friend who I knew was just signing up and using social networking sites like Facebook and Myspace. The email said something to the effect of come view my profile. My bad.... I got the first malware, virus, trojan problem of many many years.
It turns out I had the vundo trojan. In the past I ran AVG anti-virus but I've been running Avira antivirus for a while and have been very happy with it. However it wasn't caught. So I tried Avira(if found things no luck), I tried the old stand by AVG again no luck, then I went to another old friend Ad-aware. It found the trojan but it came back after each restart. I went to Spybot Search and Destroy, and then F-secure online scanner after a random google search. Again both found the troubles but the removal ended after I rebooted. The interesting part about the reboot is I noticed the Microsoft Auto-Update would be disabled by the trojan and some sort of batch file ran on command.com. So what worked? They have a FREE VERSION and a CHEAP FULL VERSION
Malware Bytes Free version download.com
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware -Full version - cheap $24
btw the difference I noticed was that Malwarebytes saved some file deletions until the next restart. That seemed to keep them from coming back.
